George Sharp

Lakewood, WA 98498
253-581-2603 Geosharp<at>comcast.net

George Sharp retired in 2002 from Weyerhaeuser Company after 25 years as Director of Mineral Resources. In that capacity he managed exploration and development for all mineral commodities on Weyerhaeuser’s timberlands and mineral holdings in the US and Canada. He also managed geohazards (volcanoes and earthquakes) for Company facilities and personnel in the Pacific NW.

Prior to Weyerhaeuser, Sharp worked as an exploration petroleum geologist for 9 years; first with the Shell Oil Company in their Frontier Exploration Group and later with the Tenneco Oil Company as their Division Geologist for the Rocky Mountain Division in Denver.

George is a native of Portland, Oregon and received BS degrees in geology(1967), math(1968), and an MS degree in geology(1969) – all from Oregon State.

Sharp is currently serving a 5- year term as Trustee and member of the
Executive Committee with the GSA Foundation, is a Delegate and Trustee
Associate with the AAPG, and volunteers for  the Forest Learning Center at
Mt St Helens.  He has served in the past on the Boards of the NW Mining
Association and the NW Energy Association and is a registered geologist in
Oregon and Washington.

George lives north of Olympia in Lakewood, Washington with his wife, Danielle. They travel extensively, work in the garden, keep active with jogging, hiking and tennis, and spend time keeping up their cabin at Zig Zag on the flanks of Mt. Hood.

I'd be happy to talk to students who are considering careers in oil and gas or mineral exploration/development. Please let me know via email and we can arrange a time with the BOA meets in the Fall or Spring.
